Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin College football team traveled to Cook Stadium on Saturday (Apr. 3) for their final road game of the spring against the Engineer of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
The two sides battled to a stand-still through one quarter but the Engineers (3-1) would take control of the game before the end of the first half. The Grizzlies (3-2) would get touchdowns from Derek Thompson and Ryan Poole in a 34-14 loss to their league rival.
How it Happened
Defense dictated the play in the opening quarter with the game's first real scoring chance coming midway through the period. With Rose-Hulman five yards away from the end zone, junior Wyatt Carmack snagged an Andrew Dion pass in the end zone and returned it for 29 yards. But the ensuing FC drive would produce a punt and Rose opened the scoring the next time they touched the ball. At the half, Rose held a 14-0 lead.
The host's lead would expand by 10 by the time the fourth quarter rolled around and just 1:36 into the period, Thompson pounded his way in from two yards out to open the scoring. Following an Engineer field goal, Dane Andrews hooked up with Poole for a 70-yard catch and score to get Franklin within 27-14 with 7:27 to play.
But the comeback bid would stall out the rest of the way as the Grizzlies were unable to find the end zone before the final whistle.
