Box Score 2 FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College men's soccer team split a pair of conference matches last week with Hanover and Mount St. Joseph.
On Wednesday (Oct. 13) night against the Panthers, the Grizzlies gave Hanover all they could handle before a late second half goal allowed the Panthers to stay unbeaten in conference play with a 3-1 win. Against the Lions on Saturday (Oct. 16) night, the Grizzlies got back in the win column, turning in a total team effort in a 2-0 road victory.
Program history was made on Saturday night, with senior midfielder Angel Tapia becoming the new single-season assist king with a helper on the first goal of the game.
Against Hanover, the host Grizzlies conceded two goals in the opening five minutes but would get back within a goal when Eddy Yousak hammered home his second goal of the year in the 27th minute. That score held until the 81st minute, when a Franklin foul in their defensive box conceded a free kick that Hanover's Josh Hughes converted to put things out of reach. Elliott Clark made 10 saves in goal for the Grizzlies, giving him three double-digit save games this year.
Three nights later, Yousak opened the scoring to give him goals in three straight games for the first time in his career. Tapia set up the play with a beautiful long ball from midfield that found a streaking Yousak, who made a slick one-on-one move to shake a defender and beat the MSJ keeper.
In the 77th minute, Franklin got some much-needed insurance off a set play. Daniel Bravo-Gomez sent a corner kick into the box that found the head of sophomore Jon Moore, and Moore buried the header into the left corner for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.
That proved to be all the offense sophomore goalkeeper Ian Rowe needed to earn his first career solo clean sheet. Rowe finished the night with six saves and Franklin held a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Up next for the Grizzlies is their final road match of the season on Wednesday (Oct. 20) night, when they face the Bluffton Beavers in a critical conference match. Kick-off from Ohio is set for 3:30 p.m.
