FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin women's tennis team faced off with two conference opponents in a 24-hour period, taking on the Anderson Ravens and the Manchester Spartans.
Franklin (3-4, 3-1 HCAC) opened the weekend with a trip to Anderson on Saturday (Sept. 28), dropping a 9-0 decision to the Ravens. The Grizzlies reversed their fortunes on Sunday at home, rolling past Manchester 9-0 to stay tied for the most wins amongst all conference teams.
In doubles play against Manchester, the Grizzlies got a pair of decisive wins from the No. 2 team of Madison Pifer and Kinley Hardom (8-3) and the third pairing of Emma Foley and Addie Rund (8-1). Franklin's top tandem of Maddie Bright and Sydney Utterback went the distance in their match before coming away with a 9-8 (3) win.
Bright claimed a 6-2, 7-5 win from the top position to open singles play. Utterback rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win from the second position to wrap up the fifth point needed for victory. Foley battled back from a set down to win her match at the No. 3 spot, 2-6, 6-0, 1 (10-0). Alayna Munson and Sydney Logsdon recorded identical 6-0, 6-0 wins while Rund was a 6-1, 6-1 winner from the fifth position to wrap up competition.
The Grizzlies are back at home on Wednesday (Oct. 2), welcoming Hanover to town for another conference meeting. First serve from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex is set for 4:00 p.m.
