Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin men's basketball team closed out the calendar year in style on Tuesday (Dec. 17) night, rolling to a 116-61 win over Boyce College to close out non-conference play.
The Grizzlies (6-4) put on a shooting display against the Bulldogs (1-10), knocking down 57% (45-for-79) of their field goals and 48.6% (17-for-35) of their threes to record their third straight victory. The 17 three-pointers are the most in a game since Jan. 7, 2015, when they matched that number in a win over Manchester.
Each team struggled shooting early on with just three field goals coming in the game's opening four minutes. With 8:23 to go in the opening half, the Grizzlies held a 16-12 lead before breaking the game wide open.
Over the next six minutes, Franklin out-scored the Bulldogs 29-4 with buckets coming in the half court and on the break. Colin York came off the bench to knock down four threes during that stretch and the Greencastle, Ind.-native led all players with 12 points at the break as Franklin took a 54-24 lead into the locker room at halftime. Franklin knocked down nine threes in the opening half, their most over a 20-minute stretch this season.
The Grizzlies kept it rolling in the second half, shooting better than 60% from the field over the final half of play. Franklin got 28 second half points in the paint and another 24 points from their reserves on their way to their largest point total since a 121-point outing against IU-Northwest on Dec. 10, 2004.
Kale Morris led the Grizzlies with 25 points, knocking down a career-high seven threes in just 20 minutes of action. Borden Kennedy and Matt Krause turned in double-doubles for the Grizzlies. Kennedy chipped in with 12 points and set a new career-high with 12 assists. Krause added 18 points and led all players with 12 rebounds on the night.
Franklin dominated on the glass, grabbing 52 rebounds to just 23 for the Bulldogs. The Grizzlies netted 50 points in the paint, 30 points off turnovers and 39 points on the fast break.
The Grizzlies are off until the new year, jumping back into conference play on Jan. 4 when they head to Ohio to take on the league-leading Defiance Yellow Jackets. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
