FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin women's tennis team played their final non-conference match of the fall on Friday (Oct. 4) evening, hosting Johnson University (Tenn.).
The Grizzlies (4-5) rolled past the Royals (1-2), taking all nine points to get back in the win column. The action started with doubles play that saw Franklin's three tandems fight off game challengers from the opposition. The top team of Maddie Bright and Sydney Utterback were 8-3 winners, a score matched by the No. 3 team of Emma Foley and Addie Rund. Franklin No. 2 team of Madison Pifer and Kinley Harmon completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win.
Both Bright and Utterback rolled to wins from the top two singles spots, with Bright a 6-1, 6-0 winner and Utterback a 6-0, 6-1 victor. No. 4 singles player Alayna Munson matched Utterback's score in her win. At the third-spot, Foley was a 6-2, 6-3 winner while her doubles teammate Rund picked up a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) win from the No. 5 spot. Sydney Logsdon closed out the match with a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-2) win from the sixth position.
Franklin looks to string together consecutive wins on Saturday (Oct. 5), when they head to Lexington, Ky. to take on Transylvania in a big HCAC showdown. The first serve is set for 10:00 a.m.
