RECAP | Grizzlies Stay Unbeaten in Spring, Take Down Principia on Saturday

ELSAH, Ill. – The Franklin College women's tennis team stayed perfect in the spring on Saturday (Mar. 10) afternoon, picking up a 7-2 win over Principia College at the Hexberg Tennis Center.

The Grizzlies (14-3) started things off with a pair of doubles wins. Senior Megan Battles and freshman Lilly Bushong teamed up for an 8-3 win at the No. 1 doubles spot, a score that was matched by Brianna Hutton and Emily Seger at the No. 2 position.

The action shifted to singles play, where Franklin took all five contested matchups. In her final career collegiate match, Battles stepped into the No. 1 singles position and closed out her playing career with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Hallie Jones.

Bushong put up a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 2 singles spot while Hutton sealed a Franklin with with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the three position. Seger moved to 2-0 in the spring with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the fourth position. Gabby Mahurin stepped into the No. 5 spot and came away with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

The FC women will play their lone home match of the spring on Saturday, Mar. 17, when they welcome Thomas More College to the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
