RECAP | Third-Seeded Grizzlies Sweep Earlham in HCAC Quarterfinal Meeting

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Franklin College women's tennis team opened up post-season play on Friday (Oct. 19) night, taking on the Earlham College Quakers in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament.

The Grizzlies (8-2) made quick work of the Quakers, advancing to the semifinals with a 5-0 win in a battle between the third- and sixth-ranked teams in the tournament. The Grizzlies punched their ticket to the semis, earning a matchup with the second-seeded Transylvania Pioneers on Saturday afternoon.

Franklin got the early jump on the Quakers thanks to an 8-1 win by seniors Holyn Eldridge and Alexa Schofner over their No. 2 doubles counterparts. The top tandem of Kared Dringenburg and Maddie Bright moved to 8-0 this fall with an 8-3 win at the top of the doubles lineup and were followed by an 8-4 from Grace Otte and Brianna Hutton at the No. 3 doubles spot.

Eldridge and Schofner put the finishing touches on the win with identical 6-0, 6-1 win at the second a third singles positions, sending the Grizzlies to the semifinals of the conference tournament for the sixth consecutive year.

The Grizzlies can advance to the finals on Sunday with a win over the Pioneers on Saturday afternoon. First serve from the West Indy Racquet Club is set for 1:00 p.m.
