Box Score 2 HOLLAND, MI (March 29, 2017) – Franklin College softball bounced back after a 3-1 loss in game one of the doubleheader against Hope College. The Grizzlies finished the day with an 8-6 win to earn the split.
Hope gained an early 3-0 lead in game one earning two runs in the first inning followed by one unearned run in the second.
The Grizzlies scored their only run of the game in the top of the sixth inning with a homerun by senior Savannah Blevins. Blevins contributed Franklin's only two hits on three at bats in game one.
In game two, Franklin got an early start on Hope scoring three runs on four hits in the first inning. They posted two more runs in the second giving the Grizzlies an early 5-0 lead. The Flying Dutch responded with two three-run innings, but could not withstand the early deficit. A late offensive push from the Grizzlies gave them the 8-6 victory.
Franklin's offense erupted in game two finishing with 14 hits, 8 RBIs, and 8 runs. Savannah Blevins continued her impressive day at the plate with three hits on four at bats also adding three RBIs. Designated hitter Alexis Tarver also went three for four at the plate while teammate Monica Collins finished with two hits respectively.
The Grizzlies improve to 11-7 on the season and will return to the field for their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener at Defiance College Saturday, April 1st starting at 1:00 pm.
