FRANKLIN – The Franklin College women's tennis team saw their four-match winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night with a 5-3 loss to the Hanover Panthers.

The Grizzlies (10-2, 5-1 HCAC) also dropped their first conference match of the year, falling to a Hanover (6-2, 6-0 HCAC) team that has won its last 39 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matches.

After play was delayed for two hours due to rain at the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex, the teams took to the courts for doubles play around 7:00 p.m. Franklin grabbed the battle between the top doubles teams, as Karen Dringenburg and Rachel Rose downed Alana Feely and Caroline Millard, 8-5. But the Panthers would claim the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.

Dringenburg claimed her second point of the night with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Meghan Farrell in a showdown of the team's top singles players. After missing some time to injury, Holyn Eldridge slid back into her familiar position as the team's No. 2 singles player in style, taking a 6-1, 7-5 win over Cami Jones.

But the Panthers were able to wrap up the match with singles win at the third, fourth and fifth singles positions. Lilly Bushong held a one-set lead and a 4-1 advantage in the No. 6 singles match before play was called.

With the number two seed in the HCAC Tournament secure, the Grizzlies wrap up conference play at Mickel-Hoover on Saturday afternoon, taking on Mount St. Joseph on Senior Day.  It will be the final career home matches for Jessica Baker, Megan Battles and Claire Hirsch.
