Franklin Men's Basketball Team Falls at Buzzer

FRANKLIN, Ind. (January 21, 2017) – The Franklin College men's basketball team lost an 86-84 heartbreaker Saturday afternoon against visiting Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Bluffton University on Alumni Day.

Bluffton won on a last-second basket by guard Trey Elchert.

Franklin rallied from a 40-35 halftime deficit to go ahead 76-74 with 3:00 to play. The lead changed hands four more times before Elchert connected on a game-winning 17-foot fade-away jumper at the buzzer.

Senior guard Aaron Mann led the Grizzlies with 23 points. He also had five rebounds.

Freshman guard Braxton Day had 17 points and a steal for the Grizzlies. Senior guard Robbie Prather had 15 points and a game-high five assists, and senior forward Brett McCory had 11 points and four rebounds. Junior center John Beineke had six points and a team-high nine rebounds.

For Bluffton (10-6, 3-6 HCAC), senior guard Austin Rohe led the way with a game-high 29 points. Sophomore forward Jared Wentling had 24 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Grizzlies (4-12, 1-8 HCAC) will return to action Jan. 25 against visiting HCAC opponent Manchester. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. at Spurlock Center.
