North Manchester, Ind. - The Franklin College women's tennis team recorded its second-straight win in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play, defeating Manchester University 6-3 on Saturday.
The Grizzlies (3-3, 3-2 HCAC) grabbed early momentum of the match with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The tandem of sophomores Karen Dringenburg and Rachel Rose won 8-4 at the top of the doubles lineup. Senior Emily Helvie teamed with junior Megan Battles to pick up an 8-5 triumph on the No. 2 doubles court.
Junior Jessica Baker and freshman Ashley Sedler lost a hard-fought 9-7 contest at No. 3 doubles.
Leading 2-1 heading into singles, the visitors won in straight sets on four courts to secure the victory. Rose dropped only three games at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Alexa Schofner recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles. Battles and Sedler each rounded out the winners on the No. 4 and 5 courts respectively.
Franklin returns to action on Sunday, September 25 at 1 p.m. when it hosts Kentucky Wesleyan University from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
