Richmond, Ind. - The Franklin College women's tennis team lost a hard-fought 5-4 road match against IU-East on Thursday evening.
The Grizzlies attempted a singles rally after IU-East won two of the three doubles matches. The duo of sophomores Karen Dringenburg and Holyn Eldridge lost only three games in winning on the No. 1 doubles court.
In singles, Dringenburg won a three-set match on the No. 1 court. She won the opening set by a 6-4 score. Dringenburg, the 2015 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, won the deciding third set by a 6-4 score.
Eldridge was also victorious in three sets, competing at the No. 2 singles position. She won the deciding third set by a 7-5 score.
Sophomore Rachel Rose recorded a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles to round out the victories.
IU-East won the deciding fifth point with a 7-5 score in the third set at No. 4 singles.
Franklin returns to action on Saturday, September 3 at 10 a.m. when it hosts a doubles tournament between Anderson University and Manchester University from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
