Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team tied the program record for victories in a single season during a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) doubleheader split with Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Tuesday from Behrens Field.

The Grizzlies won the opener 4-1 before the visiting Fightin' Engineers earning a 4-0 victory in the second contest.

Sophomore left-handed pitcher Olivia Paszek (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) recorded eight strikeouts and allowed two hits in the opener. She allowed one unearned run to improve to 13-4 in the circle.

Franklin (21-11, 6-6 HCAC) broke a scoreless game behind a four-run third inning. Junior Baylea Suiters (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) started the scoring with a single to plate junior Sara Thom (Mooresville, Ind./Monrovia). Senior Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) followed with a double to score junior Megan Lalioff (Fishers, Ind./Fishers). Franklin took a 4-0 lead on a two-run single by junior Savannah Blevins (Wilkinson, Ind./Eastern Hancock).

Rose-Hulman got a run back in the top of the fourth inning, but Paszek retired the final 11 batters she faced in the contest to secure the victory.

Blevins and Lalioff each recorded two hits in the opener to lead the team's offensive attack.

In the second game, Rose-Hulman scored one run in the first and added two runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. The visitors capped the scoring by pushing across a run in the fourth inning.

Blevins went 3-for-3 in the contest. Sophomore Grace Paszek (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) and freshman Taylor Bounin (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) each collected one hit.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, April 23, at 1 p.m. when it hosts Bluffton University in HCAC action from Behrens Field. Live statistics of both games will be available.
