Anderson, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team lost a pair of one-run decisions at Anderson University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Sunday.

The Ravens earned a 6-5 victory in the opener and hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to win 8-7 in extra innings.

In the opener, Anderson took a 3-0 lead after scoring a run in the third inning and adding two runs in the fourth inning.

The visitors responded with a three-run fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3. Junior Baylea Suiters (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) connected on a single to score junior Jasmine Hanna (Frankfort, Ind./Clinton Prairie) to start the scoring in the frame. Senior Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) followed with a two-run double to tie the contest. The base hit scored junior Megan Lalioff (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) and Suiters.

Anderson scored three runs in the fifth inning to hold a 6-3 advantage.

Franklin got a run back in the sixth inning on a run-scoring double from freshman Taylor Bounin (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville). One inning later, junior Grace Paszek (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) singled home Struewing to get within one run, 6-5. However, a groundout ended the contest with the potential game-tying run on base.

Struewing went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in to lead Franklin's nine-hit offensive attack.

In the second game, the Grizzlies scored two runs each in the first and second innings to take an early 4-0 lead. Struewing hit a two-run home run in the first inning to open the scoring.

One inning later, Hannah scored on a wild pitch as Franklin took a 3-0 lead. Lalioff later followed with a single to score Bounin.

Later, Franklin took a 5-2 lead in the fifth inning after Struewing hit a double to score Lalioff. Anderson tied the game at 5-5 by scoring a run with two outs in the seventh inning. Franklin regained the lead, 7-5, following a two-run home run by junior Savannah Blevins (Wilkinson, Ind./Eastern Hancock) in the eighth inning. Then, Anderson connected on a three-run home run with one out to win the contest.

Lalioff collected three hits and scored two runs, while Struewing drove in three runs and had two hits to lead the hitting performance.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, April 16, at 1 p.m. when it travels to Manchester University in HCAC play.
