Softball Loses Two Games at Transylvania

Lexington, Ky. - The Franklin College softball team lost a pair of road contests to Transylvania University 1-0 and 8-2 on Wednesday in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play.

Transylvania (9-8, 3-1 HCAC) got a solo home run with two outs in the sixth inning to win the opener. The Pioneers took a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning of the second game with two runs in the third and three more runs one inning later.

Franklin (14-8, 3-3 HCAC) got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning on a double from sophomore Morgan Burch (Coatesville, Ind./Cascade). The base hit scored senior Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood). Burch later scored on a fielding error to cut the deficit to 5-2.

Transylvania capped the scoring with a three-run sixth inning.

Burch and Struewing each tallied two hits in the second game.

Junior Baylea Suiter (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) had two hits in the opener.

Franklin is scheduled to conclude its spring break trip on Thursday, March 31, at 1 p.m. at Maryville College in Tennessee. Live statistics of the games will be available.
