Hanover, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team scored three runs in each the sixth and seventh inning during an 8-3 victory over Hanover College in the opener of Tuesday's doubleheader in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play.
With the game tied at 2-2 in the sixth inning, senior Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) gave the Grizzlies the lead on a run-scoring double. The base hit scored junior Savannah Blevins (Wilkinson, Ind./Eastern Hancock). Sophomore Morgan Burch (Coatesville, Ind./Cascade) followed with a two-run home run to give Franklin a 5-2 lead.
One inning later, sophomore Grace Paszek (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) drove home junior Megan Lalioff (Fishers, Ind./Fishers). A few batters later, Burch delivered a two-run single to push the lead to 8-2.
Franklin (13-6, 2-1 HCAC) took a 2-1 lead on a two-run home run by Blevins in the third inning.
Burch collected four runs batted in and was 2-for-4 with a run scored in the victory. Blevins scored three runs and added two hits.
Sophomore left-handed pitcher Olivia Paszek (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) recorded four strikeouts in the complete-game victory. She improved to 9-2 on the season.
