Box Score 2 Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team earned a split of a doubleheader against DePauw University, winning the opener 6-1 before losing the second contest 10-4 on Saturday from Behrens Field.
Junior Jeana Gregory (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) went 3-for-3 with two runs batted in to lead Franklin's 10-hit attack in the opener.
Sophomore left-handed pitcher Olivia Paszek (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) scattered six hits in tossing the complete-game victory.
Franklin got on the scoreboard in the second inning on a single by Gregory to score junior Sara Thom (Mooresville, Ind./Monrovia).
The Grizzlies (7-5) maintained the one-run lead until scoring four times in the fourth inning. Junior Jasmine Hanna (Frankfort, Ind./Clinton Prairie) reached on a fielder's choice to score senior Michelle Murphy (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) for the first run of the frame. Freshman Taylor Bounin (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) drove in two runs with a triple to give Franklin a 4-0 advantage. Bounin later scored on a fielder's choice from junior Taylor Johnson (Beech Grove, Ind./Beech Grove).
Gregory later added a bases-loaded walk to cap the team's scoring in the sixth inning. DePauw (2-7), who advanced to the 2015 NCAA Division III College World Series, scored its only run of the contest in the seventh inning.
In the second game, the Tigers scored two runs in the first inning and later took a 6-0 lead behind a four-run third inning. The lead grew to 8-0 in the fourth inning before the Grizzlies got their offense going.
In the fifth inning, junior Megan Lalioff (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) put Franklin on the scoreboard with a run-scoring single. A few batters later, junior Savannah Blevins (Wilkinson, Ind./Eastern Hancock) connected on a three-run home run to trim the deficit to 8-4.
However, DePauw added one run each in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the victory.
Blevins went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in to lead Franklin's eight-hit offensive attack in the second contest. Bounin collected two hits and scored one run.
Franklin returns to action on Friday, March 25, at 3 p.m. when it hosts Adrian College from Behrens Field.
