Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's tennis team improved to 4-2 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action with a 9-0 home victory against Earlham College on Saturday from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
The Grizzlies (5-3, 4-2 HCAC) grabbed early momentum of the match by winning all three doubles matches, losing only two games. Sophomores Karen Dringenburg and Rachel Rose earned an 8-1 triumph at the top of the doubles lineup. Senior Emily Helvie and junior Megan Battles was also victorious by an 8-1 score on the No. 2 doubles court. Junior Jessica Baker and sophomore Alexa Schofner did not lose a game at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Dringenburg recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory on the No. 1 court. Freshman Ashley Sedler, Rose, and Schofner each did not lose a game on the No. 2, 3, and 5 courts respectively. Battles earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Brianna Hutton rounded out the winners with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph on the No. 6 singles court.
Franklin returns to action on Sunday, October 2 when it travels to Hanover College for a pair of matches. The Grizzlies face Hanover in a conference match at 10 a.m. before facing IU-Southeast at 1 p.m.
