Women's Tennis Ends Season with Win at Anderson

Anderson, Ind. - The Franklin College women's tennis team concluded the 2014-15 season with a 6-3 road win over Anderson University on Friday afternoon.

The Grizzlies won 10 matches and placed third in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference during the fall season.

Junior Melissa Sanders (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) teamed with junior Chelsea Howell (West Harrison, Ind./Franklin County) to win 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. The Grizzlies held a 2-1 lead after doubles action.

Sanders won a hard-fought three-set match at No. 1 singles. She did not drop a game in the opening set. Anderson's Ashlan Millikan bounced with a 6-3 win in the second set. Sanders held off the rally by winning the third-set tiebreaker.

Freshman Jessica Baker (Brazil, Ind./Northview) recorded a straight-set triumph at No. 5 singles. She won the opening set 7-5 before earning a 6-2 score in the second frame to clinch the match.

Howell rounded out the singles winners on the No. 2 court.

Franklin concluded the season with a 10-7 record and won three spring matches.
