Box Score 2 Terre Haute, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team lost a pair of one-run games at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Tuesday evening, 2-1 and 4-3, in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action. The second game went into extra innings.
Rose-Hulman (17-7, 5-3 HCAC) scored a pair of unearned runs in the opener, with a sixth-inning run to break a 1-1 tie.
Sophomore Savannah Blevins (Wilkinson, Ind./Eastern Hancock) tallied three of Franklin's eight hits in the first game. She hit a double in the fourth inning to score junior Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) to tie the contest.
Junior McKensie Vanosdol (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) suffered the loss despite striking out five batters and scattering six hits in the circle.
In the second game, Franklin (17-11, 4-6 HCAC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings. A ground out by sophomore Taylor Johnson (Beech Grove, Ind./Beech Grove) scored senior Jessica Ayers (Frankfort, Ind./Frankfort) in the second inning.
Then, in the third inning, a pair of wild pitches by Rose-Hulman allowed junior Madison Parker (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) and freshman Morgan Burch (Clayton, Ind./Cascade) to score runs.
Rose-Hulman scored two runs in the fourth inning, and got a home run in the fifth inning to tie the game, 3-3.
Blevins went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Grizzlies' offensive attack. Sophomores Baylea Suiters (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) and Jasmine Hanna (Frankfort, Ind./Clinton Prairie) joined Ayers and Burch in recording one hit.
Franklin returns to action on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. when it travels to Bluffton University for a HCAC doubleheader.
