Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's tennis team earned a decisive 5-2 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology during the spring season on Saturday afternoon from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
The Grizzlies (8-5) picked up 8-3 triumphs on both doubles matches. Juniors Melissa Sanders (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) and Chelsea Howell (West Harrison, Ind./Franklin County) on the No. 1 court. Junior Chelsea Platt (Shelbyville, Ind./Morristown) and sophomore Emily Helvie (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) won at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Howell did not drop a game on the No. 2 court. Sanders also earned a straight-set triumph at the top of the singles lineup. Freshman Claire Hirsch (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
The teams played two doubles matches and five singles matches.
Franklin resumes the spring season on Sunday, March 22, at noon when it hosts Mount St. Joseph University from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
