Box Score 2 Fort Myers, Fla. - The Franklin College softball team scored 29 runs to sweep a doubleheader against Clark University (Mass.) to open the 2015 season in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic on Saturday. The Grizzlies won the opener in five innings 15-2 before rallying 14-10 in the nightcap.
In the opener, sophomore Megan Lalioff (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) went 3-for-3 and drove in a run to lead the offensive attack. She was the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and a second-team All-Central Region selection last spring.
Senior Jessica Ayers (Frankfort, Ind./Frankfort) added two hits and legged out a triple.
In the circle, freshman Olivia Paszek (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) tossed four innings and allowed two runs to pick up her first collegiate victory. Sophomore Bailey Lindamood (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) pitched the fifth inning to seal the win in the season opener.
In Saturday's second game, the Grizzlies rallied from a 7-0 deficit after the top of the second inning. Franklin scored three runs in the third inning to trim the margin to two runs, 7-5. The team tied the game, 10-10, behind a five-run fifth inning. Franklin broke the tie by plating four runs in the seventh inning.
Junior McKenzie Vanosdol (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) picked up the victory in relief.
Sophomores Taylor Johnson (Beech Grove, Ind./Beech Grove) and Savannah Blevins (Wilkinson, Ind./Eastern Hancock) each led the offensive attack, going 4-for-4 in the two games.
The Grizzlies won a school record 21 games last spring.
The team continues its southern trip on Sunday, March 1 with a game against Newbury College (Mass.) at 11 a.m. before facing York University (Pa.) at 1 p.m.
