Box Score Crestview Hills, Ky. - The Franklin College men's basketball team placed four players in double figures in an 89-84 overtime loss at Thomas More College in non-conference play on Saturday.
Junior Aaron Mann (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) scored a career-high 32 points to lead the balanced scoring attack. The guard connected on four three-point field goals and made 8-of-9 free throw attempts in the game. The 32 points Mann scored on Saturday in his second 30-point scoring effort on the season.
Senior Matt Niehoff (Rushville, Ind./Rushville) tallied a season-high 16 points and seven rebounds. Senior Trae Washington (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) added 15 points and eight assists. Junior John Beineke (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) scored 11 points and had a career-high 13 rebounds.
Franklin led 40-39 at halftime, but Thomas More (4-5) took a 64-52 lead midway through the second half.
The Grizzlies mounted a rally behind five straight points by Mann and a layup by Beineke to get within 64-59 at the 6:51 mark. Later, Mann connected on a three pointer and Washington converted on a layup to trim the deficit to 67-64 with 4:19 remaining in regulation.
Franklin took a 71-67 lead with 2:23 left following a layup by Washington. The basket capped a 19-3 run over an eight-minute span. Thomas More tied the contest at 73-73 on a three-point field goal by Daniel Williams with 1:33 left. Both team missed shots to win the game, including a jumper by Washington just before the horn.
In the overtime, Thomas More held an 81-77 lead before a late rally attempt from the Grizzlies. Sophomore Lucas Peters (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood Christian) made a three pointer to get the visitors within one point, 81-80, at the 1:43 mark. Later, two free throws from Washington brought Franklin within 86-84 with 15 seconds left. Thomas More made three free throws in the closing seconds to secure the victory.
Franklin played the contest with two regular starting players missing the game due to injury.
The Grizzlies return to action on Monday, December 21, at 7:30 p.m. when they travel to Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Live video and statistics of the game will be available.
