Box Score Richmond, Ind. - The Franklin College men's basketball scored 14 of the final 16 points of the first half in earning an 82-74 victory at Earlham College on Saturday in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play.
The Grizzlies opened a two-point lead to a 40-26 halftime advantage behind the 14-2 run over the final four minutes of the first half.
Senior Trae Washington (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) scored 26 points and junior Aaron Mann (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) contributed 21 points in the team's first win of the season. Saturday marked the second straight contest that both players have scored 20 or more points.
Washington accounted for eight points, including the final six points, during the late first half run.
In the second half, Washington connected on a three pointer to give Franklin a 47-34 lead with 16:39 remaining.
Earlham used an 11-4 run to cut the visitor's lead to six points, 51-45, at the 12:40 mark. However, a free throw from freshman Blake Oakley (Kokomo, Ind./Northwestern) and back-to-back layups by Washington pushed the lead back to double digits at 56-45 with 11:19 left.
Later, two free throws by Earlham's Elijah Wilson-Thomas brought the hosts within five points, 60-55, at the 6:38 mark.
Franklin used a quick 7-2 spurt to once again push the lead to double digits. A three-point field goal by freshman Caleb Giles (Indianapolis, Ind./Edinburgh) gave the Grizzlies a 67-57 advantage with 4:47 remaining.
Junior John Beineke (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) added nine points and five rebounds. Junior Trey Boles (Carrollton, Ky./Carroll County), freshman James Polston (Fairland, Ind./Triton Central), and Giles each scored six points.
Franklin returns to action on Saturday, December 19, at 3 p.m. when it travels to Thomas More College.
