Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's tennis team improved to 11-1 on the season with a 9-0 victory over Concordia University on Friday evening at the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
Senior Chelsea Howell (West Harrison, Ind./Franklin County) earned victories in doubles and singles action to tie Kayli Schaefer for second place on the program's all-time win list with 103 career victories.
Howell teamed with freshman Rachel Rose (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) to win 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. In singles, Howell dropped only two games on the No. 2 court.
Senior Melissa Sanders (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) lost just one games at No. 1 singles. She earned an 8-0 triumph with freshman Karen Dringenburg (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) on the No. 1 doubles court.
Dringenburg and Rose each won in straight sets at No. 3 and 4 singles respectively.
Seniors Emily Roberts (Franklin, Ind./Edinburgh) and Chelsea Platt (Shelbyville, Ind./Morristown) each did not lose a game on the No. 5 and 6 singles courts.
Junior Emily Helvie (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) and freshman Holyn Eldridge (Goshen, Ind./Concord) rounded out the winners with an 8-0 triumph at No. 3 doubles.
Franklin returns to action on Saturday, October 10, at noon when it travels to Defiance College. A victory will secure the Grizzlies a first-round bye in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament from October 16-18.
