Indianapolis, Ind. - The Franklin College women's tennis team advanced to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship match with a 5-0 victory over Anderson University in Saturday's semifinal round at the West Indy Racquet Club.
Franklin, the tournament's No. 2 seed, will face top seed Hanover College for the HCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, October 18, at 10 a.m.
The Grizzlies grabbed momentum of the match by winning on all three doubles courts.
Senior Chelsea Howell (West Harrison, Ind./Franklin County) teamed with freshman Rachel Rose (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Senior Melissa Sanders (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) and freshman Karen Dringenburg (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) earned an 8-6 triumph on the No. 1 doubles court.
Junior Emily Helvie (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) and freshman Holyn Eldridge (Goshen, Ind./Concord) were also victorious by an 8-6 score at the No. 3 doubles position.
In singles, Howell dropped only one game in winning on the No. 2 court. Dringenburg secured the team victory with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at No. 3 singles.
