Box Score Defiance, Ohio - Franklin College sophomore Aaron Mann (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) scored a career-high 21 points to lead the men's basketball team in Saturday's 101-91 loss at Defiance College in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play.
Franklin has scored 90 or more points in four of its last five games.
Mann recorded his second 20-point scoring performance of the season. He led five double-figure scorers in the contest. Junior Trae Washington (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) added 15 points. Freshman Jim Mace (Brazil, Ind./Northview) joined sophomores Robbie Prather (Franklin, Ind./Roncalli) and Brandon Scruggs (Royal Center, Ind./Pioneer) in each scoring 11 points .
The Grizzlies (3-12, 2-6 HCAC) took a 10-6 lead after a jumper by sophomore Brett McCory (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) five minutes into the contest. Mann connected on a three-point field goal to give the visitors a 13-12 lead with 13:34 left in the first half.
A pair of free throws by Mace put Franklin ahead 28-24 at the 7:08 mark. Later, a three pointer by Prather once again gave the Grizzlies a four-point lead, 33-29, with 4:26 left in the period.
Defiance (11-4, 6-2 HCAC) finished the half on a 9-2 run over the final three minutes to hold a 43-40 lead at intermission.
In the second half, the teams exchanged leads as Washington put Franklin ahead 55-52 after a layup with 17:02 remaining. Later, five consecutive points by Scruggs gave the Grizzlies their largest lead at seven points, 62-55, with 15:18 left.
Defiance used a pivotal 18-0 run over the next five minutes to take a 73-62 lead. The lead grew to 13 points, 84-71, following a layup by Michael Parker with 6:50 remaining.
Franklin attempted a late rally, trimming the deficit to 94-88 after a three pointer by sophomore Matt Niehoff (Rushville, Ind./Rushville) with one minute left. A three-point field goal by Prather brought the Grizzlies within five points, 96-91, with 48 seconds remaining.
The Yellow Jackets made five of six free throw attempts in the final minute to secure the victory.
Defiance, tied for second place in the HCAC, was led by Bernard Edwards with 34 points. Travis Schomaeker had 23 points and Mason Roth scored 20 points.
