Softball Splits Doubleheader at Hanover

Hanover, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team picked up its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) victory of the season by splitting a doubleheader at Hanover College on Tuesday. The Grizzlies earned a 10-2 win over five innings in the second game after losing 6-3 in the opener.

Franklin (11-9, 1-3 HCAC) recorded 13 hits in the second-game victory. Trailing 2-0, the team pounded out seven hits to score seven runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 7-2 lead. Freshman Taylor Johnson (Beech Grove, Ind./Beech Grove) plated sophomore Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) for the first run. Freshman Jeana Gregory (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) tied the score at 2-2 with a single. Freshman Megan Lalioff (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) delivered the big hit with a two-run single to plate freshman Jasmine Hanna (Frankfort, Ind./Clinton Prairie) and Gregory to give the visitors a 4-2 lead.

The Grizzlies added three more runs in the frame.

Then, Franklin scored three runs in the fifth inning. Lalioff drove in her third run of the game with a single. Junior Jessica Ayers (Frankfort, Ind./Frankfort) hit a sacrifice fly to plate Lalioff to give Franklin a 9-2 lead. Struewing followed with a run-scoring single to drive in Ayers.

Lalioff led the offensive attack with a 3-for-4 performance, three runs batted in and two runs scored. Ayers scored two runs and had two hits, while Struewing and Hanna each recorded two hits in the second game.

Freshman Bailey Lindamood (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) scattered three hits and had two strikeouts in picking up her second victory in the circle.

In the opener, Hanover (10-8, 1-1 HCAC) took a 2-0 lead behind a two-run second inning. The Grizzlies answered with a run in the top of the third inning to trail 2-1. However, the Panthers scored a run in each of their final three at-bats, including a two-run sixth inning. Lalioff had two of the team's five hits.

Franklin is scheduled to play at Spalding University on Wednesday, April 2 at 6 p.m. before hosting Ohio Christian University on Thursday, April 3 at 2 p.m. from Behrens Field.
