Box Score 2 Anderson, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team lost a pair of road games at defending Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) tournament champion Anderson University on Sunday by 10-2 and 8-4 scores.
Franklin (10-8, 0-2 HCAC) could not hold onto a 4-3 lead in the top of the third inning of the second game. The Ravens tallied two runs in the third and three more runs in the fifth inning.
Sophomore McKensie Vanosdol (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) had four hits in the two games, highlighted by a 3-for-3 effort in the opener. She had a two-run single as part of a four-run third inning in the second contest.
Freshmen Savannah Blevins (Wilkinson, Ind./Eastern Hancock) and Taylor Johnson (Beech Grove, Ind./Beech Grove) each had two hits in the second game.
Anderson (9-2, 2-0 HCAC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead through four innings in the first game. The Grizzlies trimmed the deficit to 5-2 after scoring a run in the fifth and sixth innings. However, the Ravens scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game.
In the second contest, the Ravens took a 3-0 lead after the first inning. Franklin answered with the four-run third inning to take a 4-3 lead. Sophomore Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) got the Grizzlies on the scoreboard with a run-scoring single. Vanosdol followed with the two-run single to tie the game at 3-3. Then, Johnson singled to plate Struewing to give Franklin a one-run lead.
Anderson scored two runs in the third and three additional runs in the fifth inning.
The Grizzlies return to action on Tuesday, April 1 at 3:30 p.m. for a doubleheader at Hanover College.
