North Manchester, Ind. - The Franklin College women's tennis team picked up its second straight road victory, defeating Manchester University 6-3 on Sunday. The Grizzlies improved to 5-3 on the season and 4-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
The visitors got off to a quick start winning on two of the three doubles courts. Sophomore Melissa Sanders (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) and junior Bethany Harris (Avon, Ind./Avon) recorded an 8-3 triumph at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore Chelsea Howell (West Harrison, Ind./Franklin County) and freshman Alison Meyer (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) won at No. 2 doubles by an 8-6 score.
In singles, the Grizzlies won four of the six matches to maintain the advantage from the doubles.
Sophomore Emily Roberts (Franklin, Ind./Edinburgh) dropped only one game to record a victory at No. 3 singles. Fellow sophomore Shawnee Bayes (Lexington, Ind./Austin) won by identical 6-1 set scores at No. 6 singles.
Sanders earned a 6-3, 6-1 triumph to anchor the singles lineup, while Howell won at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-0.
Franklin returns to the court on Wednesday, October 2 at 6 p.m. when it hosts Hanover College from Grizzly Park.
