Women's Tennis Loses Hard-Fought Match to Rose-Hulman 5-4

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's tennis team lost a hard-fought 5-4 home match to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday at Grizzly Park. The Grizzlies stand 3-3 overall and are 2-1 in league play.

The Grizzlies trailed 2-1 after the doubles portion with the team of freshmen Alison Meyer (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) and  Emily Helvie (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) picking up an 8-3 triumph at the No. 2 position.

In singles, sophomore Melissa Sanders (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) earned a three-set triumph at the No. 1 position, winning the deciding third set 6-0.

Sophomore Chelsea Howell (West Harrison, Ind./Franklin County) won 7-6 (4), 6-3 at No. 4 singles and sophomore Shawnee Bayes (Lexington, Ind./Austin) rallied from dropping the opening set to win the final two frames by 6-2 scores.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, September 28 at noon when it travels to Anderson University. The team will play at Manchester University on Sunday, September 29 at 1 p.m.
