Softball Splits Bluffton Doubleheader

Franklin, Ind. - Franklin College traveled to Bluffton, Ohio for a conference doubleheader versus the Bluffton Beavers this past weekend.

In the first game, the Beavers scored ten runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead and eventually win the game 15-10. Freshman McKensie Vanosdol (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) started the game for Franklin, pitching five and two-thirds innings and giving up seven earned runs in a losing effort.

Offensively, Vanosdol led the Grizzlies, going three for four with two home runs, a double, five runs batted in and three runs scored. Designated Hitter Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./HS) added two hits with three runs batted in, while shortstop Jessica Ayers (Frankfort, Ind./HS) provided three hits and three runs scored.

The bats continued to roll in the second game for Franklin as it took extra innings for the Grizzlies to beat the Beavers 12-11.

Freshman Kayla Craft (Indianapolis, Ind./Scecina) pitched a complete game, facing 46 batters in total to pick up the victory for the Grizzlies.

Catcher Emily Whitsett (Beech Grove, Ind./Roncalli) provided the main offensive spark for the. She went three for four with a home run and double, three runs batted in and two runs scored. In addition, Michelle Murphy (Columbus, Ind./North) and Struewing provided two runs batted in for Franklin, while Vanosdol and Ayers each added a run batted in each.

After splitting the two games, Franklin's record now stands at 12-22 on the season and 6-6 in the conference. The Grizzlies will be in action again next Saturday when they travel to Defiance, Ohio for a conference matchup versus the Yellow Jackets. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
