The transition to Division III baseball has been a pretty smooth one thus far for
Drew Helton.
A sophomore transfer from Purdue Fort Wayne, Helton has been dominant at the plate since arriving at Franklin College — and for the second time in three weeks, he was voted as the HCAC Player of the Week after a big weekend series against Earlham.
Helton continued to hammer conference pitching, going 8 for 12 in three games against the Quaker with six runs scored, six RBIs, two home runs and a double. The Whiteland, Indiana product was 2 for 3 with a two-run double and three driven in overall during the series opener, then went 4 for 5 with a solo homer and an RBI single in game two. In Sunday's series finale, Helton was 2 for 4 and clobbered a three-run blast that got the Grizzlies back within one run.
For the season, Helton leads the HCAC in runs batted in with 27 while ranking third in batting average (.436) and on-base percentage (.506).
Franklin will return to action this coming weekend with a three-game series at Manchester.
