One of the loudest offenses in college baseball over the first month of the season has been a little bit quieter this week.
Hanover kept the potent Franklin baseball lineup in check on Saturday, sweeping the first HCAC games of the season by scores of 13-3 and 8-4. The Grizzlies had been averaging nearly 10 runs per game coming into the day.
Game one was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning, when the Panthers put up a pair. The Grizzlies (9-7, 0-2) cut a 4-0 deficit in half in the sixth inning, when
Garrett DeHart doubled
Josh Girvan home and then scored himself on a base hit by
Drew Helton, but Hanover answered that with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
Alex Billman added a sacrifice fly in Franklin's half of the seventh to make it 7-3 before Hanover ended it with two runs in the seventh and four in the eighth.
In the nightcap, the Grizzlies got on the board first when a
Colin Goley groundout scored
Ian Nuckles of the fourth, but the Panthers answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Franklin picked up two more runs in the fifth when
Nolan McLane delivered an RBI single and Nuckles then scored while McLane got hung up in a rundown between first and second base.
Davis Wagner capped the Griz scoring with a solo home run in the seventh inning.Â
DeHart finished with three hits on the day to lead the Grizzlies, who will host Mount St. Joseph in a Sunday doubleheader. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
