Baseball Wraps Memphis Road Trip with Walk-Off Win

After dropping its first two games of its weekend road trip to Memphis, Tennessee, Franklin baseball was not about to come home empty-handed.

Nolan McLane's single up the middle in the bottom of the ninth plated Jaxon Henke and Drew Helton with the tying and winning runs, allowing the Grizzlies to walk off a thrilling 13-12 triumph over Concordia Chicago in their final game at the Rhodes Classic.

Franklin (1-2) took a 4-1 lead, plating three in the first inning on bases-loaded walks to Davis Wagner, Noah Loveall and Brady Redman and another in the second when Dyllan Redmon's sacrifice fly scored Josh Girvan.

Girvan added a two-run single in the third, scoring Loveall and Redman to make it a 6-3 game, and Redman's solo home run in the fifth gave the Griz a 7-5 edge.

The Grizzlies looked to be in good shape after a three-run seventh, one that was punctuated by a two-run single from Helton, made it 10-6 — but Concordia stormed back with six runs in the top of the ninth to put the pressure back on the Franklin bats.

They came through. With one out, Garrett DeHart singled to left and Redmon walked before giving way to pinch runner Henke. Helton then brought DeHart home with a base hit to right. After an error loaded the bases, McLane came through with the game-winner, with Helton sliding in just ahead of the throw to send the Grizzlies streaming onto the field in celebration.

Helton and Girvan each had three hits and two runs scored in the win, with Girvan adding a pair of stolen bases. DeHart scored three runs, while Redman scored two and drove in two.

Mason Campbell, the sixth Franklin pitcher, worked the ninth to get the relief win.

Franklin will be back in action on Friday (Feb. 27) against Benedictine. The game is currently slated to be played at Center Grove High School in Greenwood.
