For the second match in a row, Franklin women's soccer put together some good chances to get the ball in the back of the net, but just couldn't cash any of them in.
Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, host Spalding had no such issues, claiming a 4-0 victory on Wednesday night.
"We made a few costly mistakes, and Spalding capitalized," Griz coach Jen Jackson said.
Franklin (1-4-1) fell into an early hole when the Golden Eagles scored twice in a 2:15 span to go up two in the 17th minute. The visitors had a shot on goal a few minutes later from
Avery Hamilton, but it was turned away by Spalding goalie Sophie Young-Neawedde.Â
The home side added its third goal just 26 seconds after halftime, then got the capper in the 64th minute.
The Grizzlies put three more shots on frame in the second half from
Issy Pridemore,
Aaniylah Reese and Hamilton but couldn't get on the board.
Emma Watson finished with four saves and
Grace Williams three in defeat for Franklin, which returns home Saturday afternoon to host Wittenberg.
Jackson is hopeful that the team's offensive drought will come to an end soon.
"We had some moments of really good soccer and will grow from this," she said. "Our focus is on getting better every day. We created some attacking opportunities, but couldn't put them in the net."
