WINCHESTER, Ky. – A dominant afternoon on the hill was the highlight of Sunday's 4-1 win for the Franklin baseball team over Asbury University.
Freshman
Cameron Manuel, senior
Will Butts and sophomore
Mason Campbell combined to allow just four hits on the afternoon and the Grizzlies (5-3) rode an early long ball to a lead they would hold for the entire afternoon.
Senior
Andrew Wallace stayed hot at the plate and gave Franklin a first inning lead with a two-out, two-run home run. The Grizzlies kept the Eagles off the board until the bottom of the fifth, when the hosts halved the Franklin lead and chased starter Manuel from the game. With two outs and two runners in scoring position, Butts induced a weak pop-up to end the frame and keep the Grizzlies in front.
Franklin padded their lead in each of the last two innings, with
Alex Billman bringing home a run in the eighth and
Dyllan Redmon singling home
Colin Goley in the ninth to give the Grizzly bullpen a little cushion. Campbell made the lead stick with two perfect innings to close out the game and earn his third save of the season.
Making his second career appearance and first career start, Manuel went 4.2 innings that saw him allow one run on three hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Butts (2-0) collected his second win of the weekend with 2.1 innings of brilliant relief work that saw him allow just one hit and strike out three.
Junior
Daniel Cross went 3-for-4 at the plate, setting a new career-high for hits in a game. Redmon, Wallace, Goley and
Garrett DeHart all scored for Franklin in the game.
