Women's Basketball Opens Puerto Rico Trip With Easy Win

12/19/2025 5:33:00 PM

An early-morning flight on Thursday morning certainly didn't seem to impact Franklin women's basketball on Friday afternoon.

The Grizzlies forced 38 turnovers, stormed out to a big early lead and never looked back on the way to an 80-49 shellacking of Wilson College in their opening game at the Puerto Rico Clasico.

Franklin (7-3) forced four takeaways in the first two minutes, with baskets by Molly Schulte, Kate Breeden and Jordan Coon giving the team the lead for keeps at 6-0. Wilson got as close as 11-8 before the Griz scored the next 14 points, a putback by Breeden stretching the margin to 25-8 with 9:42 to go in the first half.

Up 43-24 at the intermission, Franklin stretched the lead to 33 points by the end of the third quarter, going up 67-34 on a Lauren Barker 3-pointer just before the horn.

The spread maxed out at 71-34 on a Taylor Turk 3 early in the fourth, and the Phoenix never got closer than 30 the rest of the way.

Fourteen different players got into the scoring column for the Griz, led by Coon with 13 points and Schulte and Kelley with 10 apiece. Cameryn Ridderikhoff had eight points and a team-high six rebounds, while Briley Munchel handed out six assists. Nobody played more than 19 minutes as the starters sat the majority of the second half.

The Grizzlies will have a day off on Saturday before facing Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sunday afternoon.
