All good things come to an end.
On Friday night, Franklin women's volleyball saw its recent hot streak snapped by Hanover, which came into the Spurlock Center and left with a 25-13, 25-22, 25-20 victory.
"We had really good moments," Griz coach
Dillon Taylor said. "I was proud of the fight that we showed and the fact that we never backed down. Obviously it hurts to lose this one, but now we have to turn the page."
The Grizzlies (13-10, 2-1 HCAC) fell into an early hole, with the Panthers taking a 10-3 lead in the first set on the strength of four service aces, and were not able to recover.
Set number two was far more competitive. Franklin trailed 16-13 before reeling off five consecutive points to pull ahead by two;
Hope Moring had a pair of kills and
Leah Middleton one during that spurt, with
Lauren Kinsey contributing an ace. The Grizzlies then led 21-18 and 22-21 before Hanover was able to regroup and score the last four points to take it.
Franklin tried to fight back from behind in the third, trimming a 21-13 deficit to three with the help of a 6-1 surge. Moring had three more kills and Middleton one in that stretch, which trimmed the margin to 22-19, but the Grizzlies were unable to get any closer.
Moring had eight kills in a losing effort, while
Kaitlyn Lavy had six and Middleton and
McKenzie Schroeder added five each.
Brionna Linkel handed out 15 assists and
Campbell Clark had 12 digs in the back row.
The Grizzlies will try to get back on track next Wednesday (Oct. 22) at Rose-Hulman.
"One loss doesn't define this group," Taylor said, "and I know they'll come together Monday and be ready to go."
