RICHMOND, Ind. – The Franklin men's basketball team made a statement in their first game of the new year, dominating from the opening tip in a blowout win over the Earlham Quakers.

Franklin (8-4, 4-1 HCAC) opened the game with a 22-2 run and never trailed on the day, rolling to an 81-56 victory over the Quakers (0-12, 0-5 HCAC).

How it Happened
Two Cooper Matthews free throws on Franklin's first possession gave the Grizzlies a lead they would hold the rest of the day. After Earlham cut the deficit to 4-2 with 18:06 to go in the first half, Franklin rattled off 18 straight points and held Earlham without a point for nearly seven full minutes. A Franklin cold stretch on offense allowed the Quakers to cut the lead to 24-14 with 7:26 to go in the half, but the Grizzlies finished off the half strong and took a 40-23 lead into the break.

Franklin kept the pressure on after the break, turning in a dominant final 20 minutes. The Grizzlies shot 51.7% (15-for-29) and held Earlham to 34.4% (11-for-32) from the floor in the second half, taking their largest lead of the game with a LeBron Bennie-Powell layup that made it 81-48 with 2:35 to play.
