DECATUR, Ill. – The Franklin volleyball team hit the road on Friday (Sept. 20) for day one of the weekend-long trip to Millikin University for the Millikin Invitational.
The Grizzlies (6-9) came away with a split on day one, falling to host Millikin in three sets in the opener, 25-12, 25-19, 25-7. Game two saw the Grizzlies turn things around, sweeping Knox 25-14, 25-17, 25-17.
Against the Big Blue, the Grizzlies were led by six kills from
McKenzie Schroeder with
Brionna Linkel handing out 13 assists.
Trinity Schroeder finished with three blocks and
Emily Holmer led the back line with six digs.
The Grizzlies turned things around in a big way against Knox, hitting .301 as a team while holding the Prairie Fire to .093 on the attack.
Kaitlyn Lavy led the Grizzlies with eight kills with
Makalyn Miller right behind her with six kills.
Linkel added 18 more assists to her season total and picked up a double-double with a team-high 10 digs.
Charlotte Goto had four aces, followed by three from Lavy.
Franklin closes out the weekend with one more matchup at the invitational, taking on Illinois College on Saturday (Sept. 21) afternoon at noon.
