LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Franklin men's soccer team closed out their opening weekend with a Sunday (Sept. 1) night showdown against host Spalding at the JR Hoe Invitational.
The Grizzlies (0-2) were dealt late-game heartbreak, with the Eagles (1-1) netting the winner late in the game to down Franklin by a 2-1 score.
How it Happened
Down by a goal after one half of play, Franklin got back to even less than 15 minutes into the second half. With the Grizzlies controlling the ball in Spalding's box,
Britton Heinrich was showed from behind by a Spalding defender and was awarded a penalty shot.
Theo Sasso stepped up to take the spot kick and he smacked the ball into the back of the net to tie things up in the 59
th minute.
But the remainder of the second half saw an onslaught of attempts from the Golden Eagles, with the hosts attempting 20 shots in the second half. The dam finally broke in the 85
th minute as Spalding claimed the game winner, and Franklin couldn't find an equalizer before the final horn.
