RECAP | Grizzlies Ride Two Big Innings to Mid-Week Win at Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Franklin baseball team hit the road for a mid-week non-conference game on Wednesday (Apr. 24) afternoon, taking on the Wilmington Quakers in search of sweeping their season home-and-home.

Franklin (17-14) leaned on a pair of big innings to complete their season sweep of the Quakers (4-26), winning the game 13-2 in seven innings.

Facing a one-run deficit through two innings, Franklin's offense went to work in the third and took a lead they would hold the rest of the way. A two-run double from Andrew Wallace followed by a two-run single from Anthony Smith capped the frame and made it 5-1 Grizzlies.

After Wilmington got a run back in the fifth, the Grizzlies put the game away with a seven-run sixth inning. Luke Harmon opened the scoring in the inning with the first home run of his career and Luke Willmann book-ended the runs parade with a two-run single to make it 12-2. Wallace added another RBI double in the seventh to cap the scoring.

Wallace finished with four RBI and was joined by Willmann and Colby Reed with two hits in the game. Smith finished with three runs knocked in and AJ Sanders scored three times to lead all players.

Maddox Manes made the first start of his career and went two innings as part of a bullpen game. Mason Campbell (1-0) earned the first win of his career with two innings of work while Brayden Marrow, Will Butts and Jordan DeAtley all logged an inning of relief.
