RECAP | Sanders Sets Program Record for Career Triples on Sunday Against Lions

FRANKLIN – The Franklin baseball team wrapped up their weekend series with Mount St. Joseph on Sunday (Apr. 14) afternoon with a pair of contests at John P. McDowell Field.

AJ Sanders became the program's all-time leader in triples with his 12th career three-bagger in game two. But the Grizzlies (14-12, 5-8 HCAC) dropped both games to the Lions (14-12, 9-3 HCAC) by scores of 13-6 and 15-12.

Game One – Mount St. Joseph 13 – Franklin 6
The opening game was a pitcher's dual through five innings, with just one run from The Mount separating the two teams. The visitors broke through with three in the sixth to start a run of at least one run in each of the final four innings.

Jordan DeAtley went 2-for-3 at the plate and Tysen Lipscomb drove in a pair of runs for the Grizzlies. Luke Harmon (4-2) tossed six innings as the starter, striking out a career-high seven batters.

Game Two: Mount St. Joseph 15 – Franklin 12
Franklin grabbed their first lead of the day in the bottom of the third with sac flies from Dyllan Redmon and Andrew Wallace and a run-scoring single from AJ Sanders that made it a 3-2 game. In the bottom of the fourth, Sanders clubbed a three-run triple to break the tie for most career triples with former Grizzly standout Craig Bland and give Franklin a 6-5 lead.

But the Lions would score the game's next 10 runs over the final four innings and despite a furious ninth inning that saw Franklin score six times and bring the tying run to the plate, the Grizzlies' rally fell just short.

Sanders finished game two going 3-for-6 with five RBI and two runs scored. Jackson Young (1-5) struck out a season-high nine batters over six innings of work as the game two starter.
