GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Franklin baseball team made the short trip to Walker Field on Thursday (Apr. 18) afternoon for a single game with in-state rival DePauw.
Junior
Andrew Wallace drove in three runs for the Grizzlies (14-13), but offense was tough to come by for the Griz and coupled with a late-inning rally from the Tigers (15-10), Franklin fell to DePauw 7-4.
Wallace opened the scoring in the top of the first, driving in a run with a bases-loaded ground out. But Franklin couldn't stretch their lead despite loading the bases again after the run and DePauw would rally to take their first lead of the day with a three-run fourth.Â
Franklin got a run back in the sixth on a
Quentcy Perry RBI single and Wallace put the Griz back in front in the seventh with a two-run double to make it 4-3. But the lead would disappear with a four-run eighth for the Tigers, giving the home side the first of three games between the two teams over the next 10 days.Â
Wallace, Perry and
Dyllan Redmon all had hits for the Grizzlies.
Brayden Marrow made the first start of his career, tossing 3.2 innings before six other pitchers saw action the rest of the way.
Franklin is back in action on Saturday (Apr. 20) afternoon, taking on Earlham for the first two of a three-game weekend series. First pitch from McDowell Field is set for noon.Â
