FRANKLIN - Led by a dominant performance on the pins by
McKenzie Schroeder and
Kaitlyn Lavy, the Franklin volleyball team will head into conference play riding the wave of momentum brought on by a sweep of Wilmington College on Wednesday (Oct. 2) night.
Schroeder dominated the game with a career-high 17 kills, finishing with a .773 hitting percentage and no attacking errors. Lavy added 15 kills and a team-high four aces and
Brionna Linkel handed out a career-high 43 assists as the Grizzlies claimed victory in straight sets, 25-22, 25-14, 25-21.
Set One: Franklin 25 - Wilmington 22
The opening set featured nine lead changes and six ties and went right down to the wire. With the Quakers leading 22-21, Franklin got a kill from Schroeder and an ace from
Campbell Clark to take the lead and force a Wilmington timeout. The Franklin defense finished off the set one win by forcing two Wilmington attack errors to close out the game. Schroeder finished with five kills in the set while Lavy and
Trinity Schroeder each had four kills.
Set Two: Franklin 25 - Wilmington 14
Franklin took command of the second set early, racing out to an 11-3 edge and would lead by as many as 11 before cloing out an easy game two victory.
McKenzie Schroeder added seven more kills and the team hit .552 overall with 17 kills and just one error for the set.
Set Three: Franklin 25 - Wilmington 21
Wilmington got the better of things in the early going and looked primed to keep the game going after taking a 16-10 lead. But the Grizzlies battled all the way back, rattling off a 10-2 run to take the lead and Franklin put the match on ice with
Makalyn Miller and
Trinity Schroeder notching consecutive kills to end the match.
