RECAP | Late Goal Spells Heartbreak for Men's Soccer on Saturday

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Franklin men's soccer team took to the pitch late on Saturday (Oct. 19) night, with a road fixture against the Mount St. Joseph Lions on tap.

The Grizzlies were dealt heartbreak late in the match, as the Lions scored in the final five minutes to take a 2-1 victory.

Franklin got the scoring underway in the seventh minute, when a free kick from Theo Sasso found its way into the 18-yard box and on the foot of Lucas Periera, with Periera volleying home his shot attempt for his second of the year and a 1-0 lead. That score would hold for the rest of the first half, with Franklin absorbing pressure from the Lions for the rest of the half.

But the Lions found an equalizer in the 48th minute and in the 86th minute, The Mount got the winner after a loose ball on a free kick found a Lion foot and was sent into the net.

Shot attempts were 19-8 in The Mount's favor, with Sasso and Kameron Darnold recording two shot attempts each. Ian Rowe made the start in goal and stopped six shots on the night.
