RECAP | Women's Basketball Outlasts Engineers on Wednesday Night

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Franklin women's basketball team resumed conference play on Wednesday (Jan. 3) night, taking on the Rose-Hulman Engineers in a big Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) road matchup.

The Grizzlies (9-3, 4-1 HCAC) and Engineers (5-7, 2-3 HCAC) went back-and-forth all night long and came down to the final minute, where the Grizzlies were able to keep te Engineers from the tying basket in the final seconds and hold on for an 82-80 win. 

Franklin dominated the first quarter but had their lead wiped away by a 15-0 Rose run to open the second period. The Griz rebounded to take the lead back at 44-43 into halftime and got their lead back to as many as seven points in the third quarter. A tense final quarter saw Franklin seal the win with two Payton Seay free throws in the last seconds, getting Franklin back in the win column.

-Seay and Maddie Barnes tied for the team lead with 15 points each and were joined in double figures by 13 points from Jordan Coon and 11 points from CiCi Bailey. 
-Franklin held a 45-32 edge in the rebounding battle with Seay and Bailey topping the team at eight boards each. 
-The Grizzlies held the lead for a grand total of 30:14 on the night, with their largest lead at 10 in the first quarter. 
-Coon and Barnes each had four assists to tie for the team lead.

Franklin wraps up their four-game road trip on Saturday (Jan. 6), heading to Ohio for a meeting with the Bluffton Beavers. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
