FRANKLIN – The Franklin women's basketball team bounced back in a big way on Saturday (Jan. 27) afternoon, rolling to an 85-43 win over the Defiance Yellow Jackets on Alumni Day in the Spurlock Center.
 
The Grizzlies (12-7, 7-5 HCAC) took the lead in the opening minute and never relinquished it, as they completed the season sweep of the Yellow Jackets (0-19, 0-12 HCAC).
 
How it Happened
A Taylor Cooney layup on the first possession of the game had the Grizzlies off and running, kick-starting a 12-2 run to open the game. Defiance cut the lead down to five midway through the quarter, but a strong finish to the opening period gave Franklin a 29-16 lead with 10 minutes gone. Franklin stretched their lead to 44-22 at the half after keeping Defiance to just two second quarter field goals and six total shot attempts made in the opening half.
 
The Grizzlies kept building their lead in the second half, with 15 different players finding their way into the score book before the final horn sounded.

-Cooney finished with a game-high 14 points with Jordan Coon adding 12 for Franklin.
-Franklin shot 44.9% (35-for-78) from the field and held Defiance to 27.8% (15-for-54) in the game.
-Rebounds were 49-32 in Franklin's favor, with CiCi Bailey's six board leading all FC players.
-The Grizzlies dominated points off turnovers (36-7), points in the paint (52-14), second chance points (19-5), fast break points (26-0) and bench points (42-6).
