ANDERSON, Ind. – The Franklin women's basketball team tipped off round two of conference play on Saturday (Jan. 20), looking for a season sweep of the Anderson Ravens.
The Grizzlies (11-6, 6-4 HCAC) shot a season-best 56.9% (33-or-58) from the field and had four players finish the game in double figures as part of a 94-75 win over the Ravens (8-9, 4-6 HCAC).
The opening of the game resembled a track meet, with both teams getting up and down the floor at a brisk pace. A three from
Lauren Barker with 4:23 to go in the opening quarter put Franklin in front for good and the Grizzlies took a 28-22 lead after one quarter. The second period saw Franklin pull away from their hosts, out-scoring Anderson 22-12 in the quarter to open up a 50-34 halftime lead.
Franklin spent the rest of the afternoon leading by double figures, with the Ravens struggling to stop the Grizzlies' shooting prowess.
Jordan Coon had a huge afternoon, leading all players and tying a career-high with 26 points.
Georgia Hanauer added 14 points with Barker and
Taylor Cooney chipping in with 13 points each. Rebounds were 40-34 in Franklin's favor with Cooney's six boards leading the team. Barker set a new career-high with six assists as Franklin recorded 18 assists on the night.
The Grizzlies are back at home on Wednesday (Jan. 24) night, wrapping up the regular season series with the Hanover Panthers. Tip-off from the Spurlock Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
